In yesterday's post I wrote about Aya's Ceramic Studio in New Brighton. Visiting Aya's studio one immediately realises how artistic she is. Her studio, house and garden is one big exhibition area for her art with ceramic pieces scattered and placed all over.

Aya’s Ceramic Studio
A lot of artists like to settle somewhere close to the coast, in the mountains, a forest or a little town in the Karoo to draw inspiration from their environment to channel into their art. Then there are people like Ayanda (Aya) Mji who lives in the heart of the New Brighton township of Port Elizabeth and who … Continue reading Aya’s Ceramic Studio
Rivonia Trialists
I had to visit the Nangoza Jebe Hall (previously Centenary Hall) in New Brighton for a meeting the other day and took a couple of minutes to study and photograph this painting of the Rivonia Trialists in the foyer. The Rivonia Trial during which ten leaders of the African National Congress were tried for 221 acts of … Continue reading Rivonia Trialists
Donkin figures 2
Yeah, yeah, I know today's picture is similar to yesterday's, but I kinda decided that I liked this one better and wanted to show you. If not today, it would have been tomorrow or next week. So today is as good as any. Won't have another one again tomorrow, I promise.
Donkin figures 1

Stealth plane on the Donkin?
I took a walk around the Donkin Reserve the other day to look for angles I haven't photographed before. The revamp is nearing its completion and I can't wait to head back there once all is done. Looking at this pic of the "Fish-Bird" art piece it looked like some kind of stealth plane or UFO approaching … Continue reading Stealth plane on the Donkin?

The shop is situated next to the central business district and close to the beachfront and airport and is difficult to miss with its bright facade. As soon as you walk into the shop … Continue reading Wezandla Craft Gallery
Reserve Bank Bronze Doors
The Reserve Bank building just off Flemming Square behind the Port Elizabeth City Hall has a pair of magnificent bronze doors which I bet a lot of people walk past without even noticing. The doors were designed by Robert Bain in 1942 and represents the twelve signs of the Zodiac.
Cheering on the soccer players
Construction at the Donkin Reserve is at an advanced stage with a number of workers involved in the construction of walkways, landscaping and other things. Walking around on the Donkin Reserve the other day, the construction workers were playing a game of soccer during their lunch hour. From this angle it looks like some of the figures … Continue reading Cheering on the soccer players
Both history and Art in the Park
While walking around Art in the Park a couple of weeks ago I spotted an angle of the Prince Alfred Guard Memorial in St Georges Park that I have never photographed. One tends to always to to the memorials themselves for a photo, but seldom take one from afar with something else in the foreground. … Continue reading Both history and Art in the Park
