There is currently an exhibition called "For the love of the game" on the go in the newly revamped lighthouse keeper's cottage on the Donkin Reserve. (I will do a series of posts on the "new look" Donkin Reserve after the World Cup). The exhibit consists of decorated paper soccer balls done by art students … Continue reading "For the love of the game" Art soccer balls

Watercolours exhibition
EPSAC is currently hosting an Watercolours exhibition by the East Cape Watercolour Association. I popped in on Friday to have a quick look and was quite impressed with some of the work on show. For anybody looking for the perfect Christmas gift for an art lover, this is the place to come and buy something. … Continue reading Watercolours exhibition
4 Women
I popped into the EPSAC gallery a day or so ago to have a look at the 4 WOMEN exhibition that is currently on. Esme Goosen, Rina Badenhorst, Roma Cloete and Sue Hoppe (who some of you will remember as one part of SAM, my predecessor on PEDP), who each have strong and distinctive styles, … Continue reading 4 Women
Totem pole
We came acoss this brightly painted pole in Clarendon street the other day and it looks like someone had a lot of fun painting it. Unfortunately it also looks like many people have placed their offerings of litter at the base of the pole. Come on good citizens you can do better than that!

...something a bit different today....instead of an actual photo of PE, here is a photo of a painting of PE!Looking down Parliament Street towards the bay. the end of an era
Two of the busiest art galleries in PE are currently holding their final exhibitions, before closing. The delightful Cuyler Street Gallery, owned by Tossie Theron, has been doing great things for PE artists for the past 13 years. Tossie is taking a well earned rest, and has sold the gallery to the owners of the … Continue reading the end of an era
Elaine Hopewell Gallery
We seem to keep popping back to Parliament Street and vicinity, which is not too surprising because it is home to some delightful old buildings. This is actually in Ivy Terrace, but is seen from Parliament Street. From this gracious old house, Elaine Hopewell has been running her well known Art Gallery and framing business … Continue reading Elaine Hopewell Gallery
On the dry dock… happy birthday Madiba
An outing of a group of artists to the Algoa Bay Yacht Club yesterday yielded all sorts of interesting subjects (for painting and photography!) Duncan Stewart was drawn (hehe) to the view of Free Spirit getting some t.l.c. on the dry dock. And dry dock is perhaps a fitting way to lead into the significance of … Continue reading On the dry dock… happy birthday Madiba
A corner of town…
I love this street corner in Parliament Street.... because it has so many interesting elements, like your classic corner store, or the very acute angled corner building in the background, and the view of the sea peeping over the horizon. And if you stand and look down the street to the left, you get a … Continue reading A corner of town…
Pursuing the cultural theme….
This is another well loved art gallery in town, Montage Gallery in Main Road, Walmer. There is always a fabulous selection of art by respected local artists, and they do framing too. The gallery is something of a landmark, thanks to its distinctive round stained glass window.
