A couple of visitors to the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum trying to grasp an interesting art piece with an old man wearing a dress. Mmmmm, perhaps I should have read the tag to see what its about.

Blowing newspaper art
One of the latest new art installations on Route 67 takes the form of newspaper pages being blown around in the wind. The piece is situated behind St Mary's Cathedral as you go up the steps and tells the story of the uprising in the late 1960's and early 70's.
Harmony in Nature – Anamorphic cylinder artwork
In front of the newly refurbished Athenaeum building is what I find to be one of the most interesting art pieces on Route 67. The mosaic piece is called Harmony in Nature and is an anamorphic cylinder art piece. On the mosaic itself the picture which represents the animals and flowers of the Eastern Cape … Continue reading Harmony in Nature – Anamorphic cylinder artwork
Eye on Art
I was part of a very delightful and well supported art walk which visited a number of art galleries around Central. The Eye on Art television crew accompanied us on the walk to film it as an insert. Eye on Art is a weekly interactive, lifestyle magazine show on Bay TV, specialising on the art scene through the … Continue reading Eye on Art
Fishbone
Route 67 has some very interesting art pieces with each one representing something specific. The Fishbone sculpture on Market Square reconnects the city's Central Business District with the Port Elizabeth Harbour's fishing industry which has been a very important aspect of the city in the past and still presently. The group in the background of the … Continue reading Fishbone

Station paintings
The beautiful old Victorian Railway Station in Port Elizabeth has existed on the present location since 1875 when the first line was constructed to Uitenhage about 40 kilometres away. The original building was designed by the then Resident Engineer of Harbour and Public Works in Port Elizabeth, James Bisset, with extensive additions, including the cast-iron supported roof of the … Continue reading Station paintings
Freeway graffiti
This rather angry looking, Mickey Mouse dress-a-like (and going by the description is also famously dead) character sits on the side of the Settles Freeway close to its end in South End. I've Googled and surfed the net a bit but couldn't find anything remotely related to him so I have no idea who or what he … Continue reading Freeway graffiti
Taxi’s in the wall
One of the latest art pieces to be installed in the city centre as part of the Route 67 initiative is a row of taxi's inbedded in the wall on Whites Road across the road from the Opera House. The piece was done by Mark Wilby in collaboration with Bongani Njalo, Bamanye Ngxale, Jason Olivier, … Continue reading Taxi’s in the wall
