Baby sea turtles at Bayworld
Visitors to the Oceanarium at Bayworld will find a tank with baby sea turtles in it. Most of these were hatchlings that got washed up after storms forced them out the warm Mosambique current and into Algoa Bay. They're often in cold shock due to the sudden change in water tempreture that also compromise their … Continue reading Baby sea turtles at Bayworld
T-Rex in Port Elizabeth
If you had a time machine and could choose any time to go back to, what time would you choose? I think most children would choose to go back to the time of the dinosaurs. Bayworld gives visitors a opportunity to get to know some moving life sized dinosaurs fairly up close and personal. Amongst … Continue reading T-Rex in Port Elizabeth
Bayworld Coffee Bar
The Bayworld complex is currently undergoing some exciting renovations in the Snake Park and old Oceanarium which will open to the public in September. Another addition to the complex will be a brand new craft shop and coffee bar opening in August. It was then acquired by John Paterson, who started the Eastern Province Herald, … Continue reading The Prince of Wales Obelisk
Bayworld cannons
A couple of cannons, salvaged from shipwrecks in the past if I'm correct, and an anchor on display outside the entrance to Bayworld. The Port Elizabeth Museum at Bayworld has a great display on shipwrecks and artifacts salvaged wrecks in Algoa Bay
Cannon (not Canon)
Here is something tongue in cheek. Some days I wonder if most photographers would be able to still spell cannon, as in gun and not camera make. The picture is one of a collection of old cannons on display in the Shipwreck Hall at the Bayworld Museum.
Bayworld Whale Skeleton
Looking up at the impressive whale skeleton on display in the Marine Hall at the Port Elizabeth Museum at Bayworld. The skeleton belongs to the last Southern Right Whale to be hunted in Algoa Bay.
Amterdam wreckage
The area of Amsterdam Hoek at the mouth of the Swartkops River in Port Elizabeth got its name from the wreck of a Dutch sailing ship. The Amsterdam was wrecked on 16 December 1817 on an return voyage from the East to the Netherlands. The ship was beached after sustaining serious damage during a storm at sea. … Continue reading Amterdam wreckage
Reticulated Python
The Reticulated Python is one of the Snake Park at Bayworld's prized snakes. Out of all the snakes on display she probably got the most attention and comments by the kids that we took to the Snake Park for Chaos Boy's birthday party.
