I'm quite active on social media but only started dabbling in Instagram recently after getting rid of my Blackberry. On Sunday morning I joined my first official Instawalk. An Instawalk (or Instameet) is a gathering of Instagrammers who meet somewhere and spend an hour or two taking photos together. South African Tourism brought two of South Africa's … Continue reading Instagrammers at play

Beachfront Tuctuc
Last Saturday I organised an Amazing Race around Port Elizabeth as a fundraiser for the KidZ' school. One of the stops during the day was at Kings Beach Park. While checking up on a couple of stops before the teams arrived I popped by Kings Beach Park and chatted to the teacher manning the point. … Continue reading Beachfront Tuctuc
Beachfront seen from the top of the Donkin Lighthouse
The top of the Donkin Lighthouse must be one of the best view point in Port Elizabeth. My favorite actually. Looking south this is the view of the beachfront beyond the harbor area. The Kings Beach parking area is in the foreground, then the Humewood slipway and Shark Rock Pier just beyond. In the back Something … Continue reading Beachfront seen from the top of the Donkin Lighthouse
Kings Beach on a sunny day

New beachfront wall
The retaining wall all the beachfront walkway between McArthurs Pool and Humewood Beach have had a complete renovation and makeover after it was found to have some structural problems that have developed over time. Every Sunday the walkway next to Marine Drive at Kings Beach get turned into the Kings Beach Fleamarket. The market is a mixture of hand made goods, African craft and curious and fong kong sunglasses, bags, wallets and clothing. The perfect spot for a Sunday morning walk and a bit of shopping.
Kings Beach sun chair feature
The whole Kings Beach development has added more than just a lake to the beachfront landscape. It also includes a number of features like this sun chair on the walkway. Great to utilise if you want to snap a couple of pics of your loved ones.
The Red Windmill – Then and Now
There was a time when the Port Elizabeth beachfront had some real iconic roadhouses. Places like the Red Windmill, Something Good, Cashbah and Palm Beach (Flat Rocks). Three of these are no more with the new Something Good still being there although slightly more advanced these days. The Red Windmill Roadhouse used to be at Hobie Beach and is remembered for the neon … Continue reading The Red Windmill – Then and Now
Prince of Wales Obelisk
I often wonder how many people have noticed the stone obelisk outside Bayworld in Humewood. The obelisk is called The Prince of Wales Obelisk and was brought to South Africa by the founder of the Eastern Province Herald, John Paterson. It was meant to be placed on the grave of his partner, George Kemp but … Continue reading Prince of Wales Obelisk
Beachfront boardwalk
Long before the The Boardwalk complex with the hotel, casino and entertainment center was build there used to be a Boardwalk. The center where Barneys, Blue Waters Café and what used to be called The Red Windmill (sorry, I have no idea what they are called now) are located is also called the Boardwalk. The … Continue reading Beachfront boardwalk
