I accompanied the webmaster of Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism on an outing to a couple of nature trails around Port Elizabeth to get some pictures for the NMBT website. I spotted this flowering bougainvillea at Dodds Farm in the Baakens Valley and, knowing me for a while now, when I told him to keep walking … Continue reading Bougainvillea at Dodds Farm

Aloe Trail plants and flowers
A weekend or two ago I took the family and joined a guided walk along the Aloe Trail in Port Elizabeth. The trail is situated between Bluewater Bay and Amsterdamhoek and consist of 2km as well as 7km trail options. Because we had the Rugrats with us we decided just to do the 2km section which … Continue reading Aloe Trail plants and flowers
Yellow
There isn't much I have to add to the picture. Its not the best closeup, there is too much shadow and the flower is slightly wilting, but if I don't post it today I probably never will. Usually after downloading photos off the camera I sit and edit those I want to load onto my blogs. … Continue reading Yellow
Aloe Nature Reserve
Port Elizabeth has some very beautiful and naturally diverse nature reserves in and around the city. The nice part is that they all have hiking trails through them and its possible to do them either on your own (always keep safety in mind and walk in at least a small group rather than on your … Continue reading Aloe Nature Reserve
Fiery aloe vs blue sky
A great contrast. The orange and yellow of an aloe in flower against a bright blue sky
Marine Drive coral aloe
I had to take a couple of photos around Marine Drive on the Port Elizabeth beachfront for somebody the other day. Now taking photos of a road isn't the most interesting and exciting project, but I did find these coral aloe in bloom on the middle man in front of the Humewood Hotel.
Retief Klip flower
Normally when I visit a site or attraction I would take some straight forward photos of it, but also look at interesting angles or features to photograph. Its always nice to have a flower or something to put in the foreground and then have the attraction in the background slightly out of focus but still recognisable. After yesterday's post of … Continue reading Retief Klip flower
Num-Num flower
The flower in the picture is that of the Num-num tree and it was taken in Knysna at George Rex's grave which can be seen in the background. The Num-Num Tree is indigenous to South Africa and grows wild along the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape coastlines occurring on sand dunes and at the margins of coastal forests. Am … Continue reading Num-Num flower
The Candelabra Flower at Dana Bay
Walking along the beach at Dana Bay near Mossel Bay I noticed a couple of Candelabra flowers growing on the hill side next to the beach. I haven't photographed any of these for a little while so, even though most of them had wilted and dried already, I trudged up the hill and found one that only started … Continue reading The Candelabra Flower at Dana Bay
Forest flowers
You should know better than to ask me the name of the flower in the picture cause by now regular visitors would know that I am pretty useless when it comes to identifying flowers. All I know is that I found it next to the river in the Knysna forest at Jubilee Creek and it … Continue reading Forest flowers
