Tugela Gorge
One of the must do's when you are in the Drakensberg is the day hike up the Tugela Gorge. On my matric (final year at school) tour nearly *mumble mumble* 20 years ago we did part of the hike and it was at the top of my list of things to do while we were in the … Continue reading Tugela Gorge
Golden Gate
One of the most famous landmarks in the Free State is the imposing Brandberg (burning mountain) rock in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. We passed through Golden Gate on our way to the Drakensberg, but unfortunately the day was starting to get late and we still had some distance to drive. This meant that … Continue reading Golden Gate
Amphitheatre
Probably the best known and most photographed feature of the Drakensberg is the magnificent Amphitheatre. Unfortunately due to all the rain in the area when we were there the Amphitheatre was only visible in its full glory on two out of the ten days of our visit. The Amphitheatre is a 5 kilometer wide 1220 meter high rock wall towering … Continue reading Amphitheatre
Lookout Rock / Tiger Falls Hike
The first short hike we did on our stay in the Royal Natal National Park in the Drakensberg was a 6km round trip starting at the gate of the Mahai campsite. The route took in sights like Tiger Falls, Lookout Rock and the Cascades and takes one up a very steep climb and gradually back down in … Continue reading Lookout Rock / Tiger Falls Hike

The 8000 hectare park was established in 1916 and received its name after the Royal family visited it in 1947. Unlike the name suggests the park isn't a National Park run by SANParks, but … Continue reading Royal Natal National Park
uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park
We spent our two week annual summer holiday in the magnificent Northern Drakensberg and although we had buckets... no truckloads of rain during our stay, it was a stunning holiday in an awe inspiring environment. By the time I get to post all the pictures I have taken (well, those worth posting at least), I would … Continue reading uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park
Mountain holiday
Last night we got back from a two week holiday in the magnificent Drakensberg. Two weeks during which we got thoroughly wet but also saw some of the most beautiful and stunning scenery the Berg has to offer. I still need to work through all the pics I took on the trip, but I promise you … Continue reading Mountain holiday
Karoo koppies
The Karoo landscapes are beautiful and always give you something new to photograph. Driving back from Gauteng I stopped for a quick break outside Steynsburg and snapped this farm gate with Karoo koppies in the background. These specific Karoo koppies in question are Koffiebus (Coffee pot) and Teebus (Tee pot).
12 Apostles
The Twelve Apostles is probably the second most photographed mountain around Cape Town after Table Mountain's table top. The Twelve Apostles is part of the Tabel Mountain range as it stretched down towards Cape Point. The area in the distance is Camps Bay, an affluent area with a beachfront fringed by palm trees and trendy … Continue reading 12 Apostles
