Schoenies is situated on the southern coast of the city and even though its referred to as a village, its a suburb of Port Elizabeth. Schoenies path
If I could choose any place to live in Port Elizabeth no matter what the cost or situation, Schoenmakerskop must be very close if not at the top of my list. Schoenies, as it is affectionately known, is in all purposes a small suburb of Port Elizabeth, but is generally referred to as a village. … Continue reading Schoenies path
Marmalade
I popped down to the Schoenmakerskop village market last weekend to stock up on my favorite marmalade. I don't like the normal bitter marmalades and the lady who has this specific stand has a couple of sweet marmalade varieties in addition to the bitter ones. Suddenly I feel like toast and marmalade...
Coastal springs
There are a lot of fresh water springs that originate along the Wildside coast of Port Elizabeth. All along the coast at places like Willows, Schoenmakerskop, Kini Bay and Seaview and in between you would find fresh water seeping through the rocks and running down to the sea. Its normally easy to spot these little … Continue reading Coastal springs
Schoenies market
We popped into the Schoenmakerskop Flea Market this morning for a quick squize. Its not one of those big markets but something a little bit more intimate. This one particular stall had a huge range of jams, preserves and pickled items at the most unbelievable prices. Usually you would pay about R20 or R25 for … Continue reading Schoenies market
Schoenies walkway

Hopefully at some stage during the holidays I will get a chance. Most people take the walk early in the morning and … Continue reading Sacramento Trail
The Wildside
The southern coastline of Port Elizabeth from Cape Recife to Schoenmakerskop is generally knows as the Wildside. It's mainly because the coast is rugged with lots of rocks and little sand. Its also open to the prevailing south-westerly wind which means that it can become quite stormy out there outside the shelter of the Bay.
Schoenies
Finally, your trip along Marine Drive gets you to the charming little village of Schoenmakerskop. (We featured the sun rising over the sea there last week. )And, if you are lucky, you can enjoy a lazy brunch at the Sacramento restaurant, overlooking the beautiful coastline, and, in the right season, watching whales playing around nearby.
Schoenmakerskop at Sunrise
On Sunday it was a beautiful morning and we took a sunrise jaunt along the coast. By the time we got there the sun was bouncing off the sea and creating wonderful mirrored areas.
