Summer is knocking

Spring may still be wet behind the ears, but the days are getting longer and warmer and summer is a knocking on the door.  This was very clear on Sunday when the temperature sored and the beachfront was packed.  People seemed to have dusted off their bathing suites already and, even though the water was still a bit … Continue reading Summer is knocking →

Coastal info boards

I love theses information boards that you find at touristy spots and lookout points along the South African coastline.  Some of them teach you about whales and dolphins while others contain information on early people living there as well as what to find in the intertidal areas.  I think there should be more of them … Continue reading Coastal info boards →

Opening of the Season fireworks

Last night the annual Opening of the Season fireworks took place at Hobie Beach after it was postponed due to rainy weather the previous night.  I really didn't feel like taking on the crowds and traffic jams on the beachfront for a couple of pictures, so I decided to head up to Lovemore Heights to … Continue reading Opening of the Season fireworks →

Rough sees

The other day during spring high tide we also had a strong easterly wind blowing here in Port Elizabeth and that normally means a very rough sea.  I popped down to Hobie Beach to have a look and got a couple of pics around Shark Rock Pier.

Beachfront

Looking along the promenade back towards town from this point, a couple of beachfront landmarks are visible.  Bayworld is on the left with the Garden Court (previously the Holiday Inn Garden Court) behind it.  The tall building in the middle is The Beaches apartment block while the McArthur's swimming pool is visible on the right.

Rough seas

Last Wednesday I popped down to the beachfront at lunch time to see if I can get a couple of nice pics for this here blog.  There was a howling easterly wind and a very high tide which meant that the sea was very rough.  The waves were just about washing over the whole Hobie … Continue reading Rough seas →
