We've been having beautiful skies around Port Elizabeth over the last week or so with tonight's sunset being a particular stunning one from what I see on Facebook. Unfortunately I'm in Cape Town at the annual Cape Getaway Show so wasn't able to photograph it. I did photograph this beautiful sky scene the other day … Continue reading Clouds over PE

Pyramid shining
The sun peaking out from behind the Donkin Memorial on the Donkin Reserve. The Donkin Memorial was erected by Sir Rufane Donkin in 1820 in remembrance of his late wife Lady Elizabeth after whom he named the town.My first Skywatch contribution of the year. Eish, that's bad of me.
Van Stadens Bridge
If you want to see different fynbos species and beautiful proteas in flower the Van Stadens Wildflower Reserve is probably one of the best places close to Port Elizabeth to do so. But the reserve isn't just about flowers, its also about other vegetation, birds, insects plus you get a great view of the Van … Continue reading Van Stadens Bridge
Boardwalk development
One of the single biggest leisure developments ever in Port Elizabeth is busy taking place at the Boardwalk complex on the beachfront as we speak. The Boardwalk, as part of their new casino license agreement, is busy building a brand new 2400 seater international standard conference centre along with a 5 star hotel (a one billion rand … Continue reading Boardwalk development

On the afternoon game drive we encountered the lions and afterwards headed up to a … Continue reading Greater Addo Park sunset

The obelisk was carved in France out of stone similar to granite for the London World Exhibition in 1862. It was then acquired by John Paterson, who started the Eastern Province Herald, … Continue reading The Prince of Wales Obelisk
Campanile for Skywatch
I know I posted something similar not too far in the past (so if you saw that one please excuse me), but I still wanted to post this picture looking up at the 52 meter high Campanile, built on the landing beach of the 1820 British Settlers.
Rainbow
With all the rain we've been having the last couple of weeks we haven't had a lot of sunshine around. But when the sun does break through there is always a chance of a rainbow. Like this one I caught coming off the N2 at the Westering / Framesby off ramp.
