The enterance to the Walmer Town Hall on Main Road Walmer is a reminder of a by-gone era. The hall was built in 1908, when Walmer was still a separate town and municipality. It has long since been incorporated as a suburb of Port Elizabeth.

A pic of this gate appeared on a Facebook page and stimulated a whole conversation about Walmer amongst a bunch of old Ex PEites. The most memorable thing, for me and everyone else who lived there, was how bloody difficult it was to get one's bicycle through these gates which had been designed to keep horses off the Town Hall property.
