Orange Kite Spider

I have done a post about a Kite spider and its web before, but I recently came across this orange and white Kite Spider (Genus Gasteracantha). The Kite spider has a flattened, shiny and hard abdomen with spiny projections.

They are normally found in a symmetrical orb web in a tree. They are quite small, normally about 8mm, so most people would walk right by them without spotting them.

  2. Excellent Jonker. Might be an idea for me to stop crawling on the ground. Need to walk upright and look for webs. I have not seen one of these kite spiders yet, so no pictures from me (yet). Lovely colours. How about one of the spider on your hand next time? Just for size reference purposes.I will just have to try harder to find a kite spider.
