As a cruise destination Port Elizabeth unfortunately stands in line behind Cape Town and Durban. Over the years the tourism industry in the city had pushed hard for the harbour to be more cruise ship friendly to try and attract more ships, but unfortunately the harbour authority isn’t playing ball saying that its not part of their core business. The good news is that research has shown that cruise ship visitors to the city exceed their expectations during their stay which shows that we should never give up trying.

I would think that cruise ships would bring in more business. This is a beautiful picture.

Ah – we saw it in Cape Town on Tues night and whole day on Wednesday. We tried to get close to take a photo but it was not accessible. Apparently it was there as a test run for the World Cup. It's berth was being tested for accessibility for passengers etc. We thought it was in a crazy place as we couldn't get anywhere near it. That's why we went up to Signal Hill – to try and get a photo … but it had already left !!!! Gone to PE obviously !!

Just to add – we went to Signal Hill Thursday morning before leaving for airport and we hadn't been near harbour to see if it was there or not – we just presumed it was still there. She must have sailed out/sneeked out in the night!!

Wow, that's huge. Too bad you don't see more of this potential income to the community.

I knew I forgot something on Friday evening. I heard that she would sail at 6pm. I only remembered that I wanted to take some photos of this beautiful ship before she sailed when I saw your post today. Oh well at least one of us took the pictures.

Those ships can have Durban where I wasn't overly impressed.

So short-sighted of the port authority!! Always seems surreal to see a movable object dwarfing quayside buildings 🙂
